Interview with Ryan McLean

Ryan McLean

The following is an interview YIAM had with online entrepreneur Ryan McLean.

Q: When and how did you start making websites and doing things online for money?

I started making websites in early 2007 when I started reading about making money from blogging. I started small with a few blogger.com blog and all of them failed miserably. I have been continually learning from my experiences and now have a solid website www.smarterwealth.net and I also have several smaller ones.

Q: What made you want to start?

I had a passion to make money and lots of it. I thought it would be easier than it was and this is what drove me to start. As I failed and failed and failed I began to fall in love with writing and this passion to be a full time writer overtook my passion for money. I only want the money now so I can afford to write full time. Writing is first, money is second. This is my motivation and why I push myself so hard.

Q: Are you a full time internet entrepreneur? If not, do you want to be?

No I am not. I am currently working about 3 days per week as a sales assistant at a local chemist. I do not really enjoy this and I do not want to do this at all. I simply do it because I need the money to survive. I work 2 days per week online but at the moment I am only earning about $100/month. If I can earn 3 days wage each week (around $350/week) then I can afford to go full time and this is what I am aiming for. So I am not a full time internet entrepreneur yet but I am planning to be.

Q: What is your favorite way to make money online?

My favourite way to make money online is through my blog at www.smarterwealth.net
I love everything about it. I love writing posts, I love interacting with readers and I love promoting my blog and seeing it grow. I get a kick out of building something big and I love it when I land an advertiser for my blog.
I also do website flipping (which I am still learning) but this is no where near as fun for me. In fact it is boring and mundane.

Q: I hear you went to Bible School, did that affect your online endeavors?

Yes I went to bible college for 2 and a half years and I have a dream to become a pastor one day and move from writing about finances to writing about christian living sort of things. My love for God and dream for ministry pushes me to become effective online. Developing my writing, developing my readership, developing my marketing skills and developing my income will be the launching pads for me into full time ministry. So yes bible college changed my long term online endeavors a lot.

Q: Does being a Christian affect what websites you make and jobs you do?

Yes it does. I will not create a website that I believe is unethical. I know a lot of money can be made in the porn industry and with my marketing skills I could probably accomplish this but I choose not to because I believe it is unethical. I create websites which I believe will benefit other’s loves…not take away from them.

Q: Where do you feel God leading you next?

I am on the path God is leading me toward. My next step is becoming a full time entrepreneur and writer and then when I can focus all of my time on my online endeavors I have a plan to start a christian website www.thedisciplinedseeker.com based out of the verse that says "First you must believe that He exists and that he rewards those who diligently seek Him". This will be a website which will contain a blog with daily devotions and in depth questions and thoughts about christianity, life and the bible and will also have many free mp3 downloads and videos which will help and inspire people.
